Mumbai blasts shook the entire country. Whether we call it intelligence failure or a well-planned strategy of the terrorist outfits, the truth is that no person is safe on this planet. God forbids but what happened in Mumbai can happen anywhere else in India. Considering the sophisticated technology and materials used by the terrorists, it is advisable for every human being to be prepared for any eventuality. Mr Amit Kumar suggests the following precautions to protect yourself and your family in the wake of a terrorist attack:

Do intelligence officials know what kind of weapon is more likely to be used if there is an attack? Is a radiological weapon the same as a nuclear weapon? There are so many possibilities that it seems impossible to prepare for everyone. What should residents do? Is there any way to protect yourself against a 'dirty bomb' explosion? Thousands of people are stocking up on potassium iodide tablets. Will those help? If there is a chemical weapon attack, where is the best place to be in my house? Government authorities are recommending that people store water. Are public water supplies vulnerable?

How can we prepare for an attack that we cannot predict? What should be included in the family emergency plan? What should be in a disaster supply kit? Should parents rush to schools to pick up their children in the event of an attack? Should we admit to our children that we are nervous? If a chemical or biological weapon attack is announced, what should we do? Officials say that in small rooms, the oxygen could be used up quickly. Is it better to select a larger room with windows or a smaller room with no windows? It seems everyone is running out to buy plastic sheeting and duct tape to seal off windows in the event of an attack. Will this prove effective? Will phones keep working?
