Postal Department Initiatives
Here’s some good news for all the citizens.
The Postal Department has undertaken the responsibility to forward any requisitions under the Right to Information (RTI) act addressed to the Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs) of the central ministries like the CPIO of the President of India or the Prime Minister’s Office.
What can I do?
- All you have to do is approach the officer of the postal department in the city who has been authorised to receive RTI requisitions for central ministries and departments other than the Indian post.
- Ensure that your requisition carries full address of the CPIO you are demanding information from.
- Deposit your requisition fee of Rs 10 with the officer. You will be given what is called an Unclassified Receipt (UCR).
- Attach the receipt to your RTI requisition and hand it over to the designated officer who functions as the Assistant Public Information Officer (APIO) under the act.
- The officer will forward your requisition free of charge and by registered post to the CPIO to whom the requisition is addressed.
Following officers of the postal department have been designated as APIOs to receive requisitions in Pune:
