| Things to be done in the case of accident |
- The person who causes the accident should carry the patient to hospital under Motor Vehicle Law Section 134
- It is mandatory for doctors to treat the patient under Motor Vehicle Law Section 134.
- Do not wait for the police to come to the site of the accident and do not be afraid of the police.
- Anybody who disobeys Law 134 will be fined under Section 187 which comprises of 3 months simple imprisonment or a fine of Rs.500.
- There is a law by which the victim’s parents/relatives have to be compensated.
- In case the victim or his family does not know the vehicle number of the person who caused the accident, the government can compensate him.
- To help the victim’s relatives get compensation from the government, the following papers can be obtained from the police:
- FIR report filed with the police
- Postmortem report made at place of accident site
- Report of injuries
- Copy of report made after dissection of body
- The following detailed information about the person/vehicle that caused the accident is available at the accident related police station:
- Name and address of the owner/driver
- Vehicle Insurance Certificate
- Driving license
- Registration Certificate
- Fitness Certificate
- To file for compensation, the victim has to do so at the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal himself or through his advocate within 12 months from the date of the accident.
- In Pune and for the Pune district, the Motor Vehicle Accident Court is in the Shivajinagar Court premises.
- If the victim does not get any help or cooperation from the police or is refused medical treatment or faces a problem in obtaining compensation, the following police officers can be contacted:
